Earth & Water Spring Yoga - on Earth Day!

from $15.00

Join yoga instructor Anna Aresi and rain painter Rachel Brask for a springtime Earth Day yoga session in the art gallery!

Springtime is governed by the elements of earth and water. Rachel Brask’s oil paintings on the gallery walls are inspired by expressing the beauty and flow of rainwater. Let’s acknowledge and honor these qualities in our bodies and minds and celebrate Earth Day together in this way!

ABOUT ANNA ARESI, YOGA INSTRUCTOR

Anna is a certified yoga and pranayama teacher. She came to yoga to deal with the stress of graduate school and found that this practice offered so much more than relief from stress: a lifelong journey of self-discovery and transformation. Movement (asana), breathing (pranayama), meditation, and ayurvedic practices have been essential parts of Anna’s daily life, especially during such life-changing transitions as pregnancy, postpartum and parenthood. Anna’s classes facilitate moving with awareness and in connection with the breath, longer holds, and meditative introspection.

Off the mat, Anna is a translator and educator with a strong interest in poetry, children’s literature, and all things multilingual. She lives in Pawtucket with her husband and three children.

  • Springtime is governed by the elements of earth and water. According to traditional yogic and ayurvedic wisdom, together they constitute the principle of kapha, which is defined as “unctuous, cool, heavy, slow, smooth, soft, and static.”

The heavy, sticky oil that slowly drips down the canvas of Rachel Brask’s paintings both covers and reveals beautiful, vibrant landscapes. Her art highlights that transient yet crucial moment of transition that we are all experiencing this time of year. What better background for a spring movement and breathing practice to honor and celebrate the seasonal transition?

Now is a great time to acknowledge and honor these qualities in our bodies and minds, and gradually release any excess that no longer serves us as we move into the warmer months.

This Earth Day, April 22, join us for a special yoga class inspired by Rachel’s art and all things spring-y and rainy!

  • • Can I eat before this class? – It is not recommended to practice yoga on a full stomach. Try not eating for 2-3 hours before the class. Water and small, lighter snacks like fruit, yogurt or granola bars are ok up to one hour before class.

Do I need any yoga experience to participate? —This workshop is perfect for all levels of experience with yoga, including yoga newbies! If you have any health concerns, be sure to let the teacher know before class.

How long is the yoga class? – The class is 1 hr and 15 minutes. After a brief introduction we will have movement and breathing followed by a final rest pose. Participants are welcomed to linger afterwards if they’d like to learn more about the art exhibit or talk with the artist.

    • Should I dress in any particular way? —Wear comfortable clothing that allows you freedom of movement.

    • Can I bring a friend with me? —Yes, as long as you register for this friend, just fill their name in at registration. If class is canceled or rescheduled, you’ll be the one contacted to inform your friend of the cancellation.
